Prompts:
Never have I Ever.. read a later book in a series – before reading the first book.
Up until a couple of years ago I would have been able to answer ‘no’ to this one. But at least twice I’ve accidently requested a review book that was book 2 of a series. Luckily, each time I was able to pick up the story pretty easily and didn’t feel like I had missed too much context to be able to enjoy the book.
Never have I Ever.. burned a book.
I’ve definitely never burned a book. That’s not to say there aren’t a few I’d LIKE to set on fire. *cough*johnsteinbecksbooks*cough*
Never have I Ever.. read a book I knew I would hate.
Well, I have had to read books for school way back in the day but if I don’t count those….no? I’ve read books before where I knew I probably wouldn’t like them much. Sometimes I was right (The Betrothed) and other times I’ve been pleasantly surprised. In fact I read several books last year that I enjoyed that, objectively, I probably shouldn’t have and I read them knowing they were going to be objectively not great writing. But still, the heart wants what the heart wants. And now I’ve totally lost track of this question…. Anyway, I think hate is too strong. Dislike–yes! Hate–no.
Never have I Ever.. wrote a fanfiction about my favourite books.
Nope! Although I have read some. And I have written fanfiction but it was all for anime and it was all very badly written. 🙂
Never have I Ever.. loved a book when I was young, yet hated it when I got older.
Well there are certainly books I’ve read when younger that just don’t hold up to an adult reading but I don’t think there’s any that I didn’t still enjoy for some reason or other.
Never have I Ever.. dressed up as one of my favourite literary characters.
I have not! Although I’ve been tempted to cosplay before, it just hasn’t happened. Yet. 😉
Never have I Ever.. hated a book by an author I love.
Again, I think hate’s a strong word. Although…now that I’m thinking about it, as an Anne Rice fan I did really very strongly disliked Prince Lestat. I somehow rated this 3 stars and even said I had thought about giving it 4 stars??? But the longer I think about it the more I dislike it. LOL
Never have I Ever.. gone into a bookstore to buy one book and come out with many more.
Of course I have. Of course. How do you think my TBR got so big? 😉
Never have I Ever.. read the ending of a book before reading the beginning.
Well okay once, but unintentionally! Years ago I was thumbing through the back of a book to see how many pages it was and accidentally read something from the last paragraph. And it was about my favorite character dying! And thus the book has sat on my shelf since 1997 unread. I can’t bring myself to read it and make it true lol.
Never have I Ever.. read a book without the dust cover.
Yeah, a few times. Sometimes the dust covers get on my nerves so I take them off. Although this doesn’t happen all the time. I guess it depends on how well it fits the book.
Never have I Ever.. skim read nearly half the book.
I don’t think so? Sometimes I skim read but mostly romance or when I’m doing a reread but I don’t think I’ve skim read that much of a single book!
Never have I Ever.. pretended to have read a book that I haven’t.
Nope. I’m always pretty clear about what I’ve read and what I haven’t read.
Never have I Ever.. saw the movie before reading the book.
Oh yeah, I definitely have. Practical Magic for one, probably dozens of others. I’m not one of those readers that always has to read the book first. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
Never have I Ever.. had a book boyfriend.
Well hello there, Mr. Darcy. 😉
Never have I Ever.. read a history book or anthropology book for fun.
I have! I love history. I used to be really into 16th century British and French history and I have read a few books on the Tudors and such. I mean, as a child I used to read the encyclopedia (this was way before the internet and wikipedia haha) and write up ‘book reports’ for fun! So…yeah. LOL
Never have I Ever.. picked up a book based on the cover alone.
Oh yeah I have. I’m totally a ‘judges a book by a cover’ person. WHOOPS. 😀
Never have I Ever.. Bought multiple books in a series without having started it.
Yes, I have done this as well. Sometimes I’ve collected the entire series and still haven’t read it. Like…Crown of Stars by Kate Elliott. I can’t seem to help myself….it’s that collecting urge lol.
My new prompt:
I’m going with a prompt that I would actually answer ‘yes’ to! I’m curious what other readers think about this one.
Never have I Ever.. kept reading a series even if I didn’t love the first book.

I had some incidents like yours, when I go to the end of the book to see how many pages there are and accidentally read something that I should not have read. But I was lucky and get only minor spoilers!!
Yeah, I am *very* careful now about flipping through to check the page count haha.
Glad you also enjoyed filling this one in! It was so much fun!
And to your prompt, I would also say yes ahah! Especially if a series has great reviews, I just want to know where that comes from!

Thanks, Evelyn! This was a ton of fun filling out. 🙂
Thank you so much for tagging me!!
You’re welcome!
Wow, I can answer “yes” to so many of these! Lol. Bought multiple books in a series without reading them. Check. Bought a book just for the cover. Check. And more, we’d be here all day🤣
LOL. Well, same honestly haha. I have collected entire ten book series without having read book one haha. 🙂
Thank you so much for the tag, I can’t wait to do this!!
Hope you have fun filling it out!
Entering a bookstore and coming out with only ONE book??? No way! 😀
Fun tag, thanks for sharing!
Right??? How do people have such restraint? LOL
Restraint??? What’s that, precioussss? 😀
Exactly lol
Tudors!! I’ve been trying to remember that word for the past two days! You know when you know what word you want to say but you can’t think of it?! OMG! It’s been an annoying two days word-wise.
Thanks for tagging me for this! Oh gosh, that sucks that you accidentally spoiled yourself for that one book and its been unread since 1997.
LOL. Yes, I know exactly what you mean. 🙂
You’re welcome! Yeah, it sucks because I’d been so excited for it. But turns out the author never finished the trilogy so maybe it’s a good thing I never read book 2.
Great tag and answers! I actually gasped aloud at the book burning one — I don’t think I’ve known anyone who has burned a book 😮 I don’t think I ever could! Also, in answer to your prompt, I most defo have and sometimes hated myself for it but still couldn’t stop reading. Other times I’ve found that the series either stayed “just okay” or actually improved! Haha
I think I could only burn a book if I ran out of things for a fire and was desperate to keep it going like life or death situation lol.
Yeah, I have done that as well! I have a hard time DNFing and also a lot of times I wind up liking book 2 of a series way more than book 1. 🙂
Great tag. I might have a go at this at some point.
And yes to many of these. Buying a book for it’s cover – who! Me? ahem.
Lynn 😀
I buy sooooo many books for their covers. I’d say it’s become a problem but I really love books all over my house so it’s been working out. 😉
