Hello all! Some of you may have noticed that I’ve updated the look of the blog over the weekend. I’ve been wanting to change things for a while and I thought it was as good a time as any. Found a new theme I like and got a new header image, also changed the colors so it’s now brighter and more cheery and less dark and heavy. I feel so refreshed! I’m sure eventually I’ll get sick of this as well and change it again but probably won’t have any major changes for a while. At some point sooner rather than later I’d like to update graphics but other than that I’m good. π
So. Books. I read a lot last week, somehow, despite work being pretty busy. I finished off two of the books on my list from last week and made good progress on another. I also finished up two novellas and a middle grade fantasy (the first Cirque du Freak book for my r/fantasy bingo card). Woohoo, progress! Slowly getting down that TBR from 20 Books of Summer challenge while also squeezing in some mood reads and bingo stuff too, that’s what I call a good week.
I also caught up a lot on blogging stuff. In addition to tinkering around with the look of the blog, I also caught up on some other site maintenance and review posts. I added a new page as a review index of sorts where I have all my reviews alphabetical by author. I also have gotten a little under a dozen posts pre-scheduled so I’m feeling pretty good right now. PHEW. Always good to have a little bit of a buffer in case something comes up.
This week will be pretty busy, I’ll be the lone salesperson/customer service rep at work on Monday and Tuesday, then I have a couple of things to do after work next week, and this coming Saturday night my husband and I have a concert to go to in DC. Hoping I can squeeze in some reading though!
My audiobook of Touch has still not checked out from the library yet, don’t know what’s up with that, so I’ll be trying to listen to another shorter book again. I’ve got The Defiant Heir by Melissa Caruso lined up. Looking forward to this one! This is one of my backlist books, so not in my summer TBR, but still one that I need to get to regardless.
I’m still working on finishing up The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang. It’s really great to be back in this world, even if it can be pretty grim. I’ve missed these characters. Should definitely be able to finish this one up this week.
If I get time, I’ll be starting Myths & Mortals by Charlie N. Holmberg. I’m really looking forward to this sequel since I enjoyed the first one. If it’s like her other books, it will be a quick read. Hoping I can start and finish it, but it really all depends on time and whether or not I get distracted by some other non-scheduled book. π
So, those are my plans for this week. Thoughts on these? What are you reading? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!
Love the new look! On my phone and itβs not letting me share π€¨
Thanks! Hmm, that’s frustrating. I should still have working share buttons….
Oh sorry, I didn’t mean your site was at fault, it was my phone! I mustn’t have been in a good service area.
Ah, got it. No worries! π
I love your new header! It’s fun to refresh your blogπ I just finished an amazing book, Recursion by Blake Crouch. Now I’m in that position where the book that follows it is going to have a hard time living up to it. I hate that!
Thanks! Glad you loved that one. I’ve only read Dark Matters, which I thought was really interesting and fun. It’s tough following a good read!
Your blog looks great and you had a great reading week.
Enjoy your upcoming concert and hope your reading is equally as good this week.
Lynn π
Thanks, Lynn! Hope you have a great week too.
Ooo, you’re reading two series I really want to start! I have an egalley for Dragon Republic, so Poppy War will be hitting the top of my queue any day now….
Hope you enjoy it, it was one of my favorite reads of last year!
I love the new look of your blog β€ I didn't think your old one was dark and heavy but this one is definitely more cheery π
Thank you!
I love the new look, itβs so fitting for summer! Also did not realize Holmberg had written books outside of the Paper Magician series, so Iβm off to go very excited about that!
Thank you! It does feel summer-like now that I think about it. π
I loved The Paper Magician series! This one has been interesting so far, maybe a little grittier than Paper Magician but still full of interesting magics and characters. π
The blog’s looking great! And I am feeling very much in the same boat with regards to feeling busy and trying to juggle a bunch of books. The kids are out of school now and I’m driving them around to various activities to keep them occupied, whereas my reading time has plummeted because of it. Summer time is also bad for contract/freelance work so I’m trying to make up for it by putting in more hours and grabbing what jobs I can. There are also so many books waiting on my to-read pile that I want to pick up! I just need some time to get into the new rhythm π
Thanks! Yeah, summer transition is tough! I don’t have kids so I don’t feel it as much as others but it’s still a bit of an adjustment. It feels like there’s always less time!
Looks good!
I’m currently reading the storm crow and listening to crown of feathers!
I really need to got to Crown of Feathers soon!
Three cheers for Amalia and Zaira! I love this trilogy so much – I can’t wait to hear how you get on with the second book. I’m still putting off picking up The Dragon Republic (but not for much longer) as a couple of other ARCs sneaked onto my TBR that get released sooner πVery much looking forward to it though (I am not ready. Is it even possible to be ready?)
So far I’m enjoying book two! Well, of both series, haha. I may have stayed up too late last night reading The Dragon Republic–It’s so good!
Looks like you had a great reading week…!!! Hope you enjoy the books you are currently reading and I canβt wait to read your thoughts about them …
And I totally agree that scheduling posts is immensely satisfying πππ
Thank you! Hope you have a great week, too!
Can’t wait for Kuang’s Dragon Republic. We went to the Odyssey Writing Workshop together and I have an interview with her coming out in September with NewMyths.com!
I’m reading it now and it’s amazing so far, about 40% through. That’s awesome! I met her this year at Balticon briefly, she seems super nice. π
She is. Super smart too!
Ahhh I can’t wait to read Dragon Republic!! I’ve been seeing your tweets on it and I’M SO SCARED/EXCITED. And yay, we’re theme buddies! Love your new banner. β€
It was SO GOOD. Can’t wait for you to read it too so we can chat.
Yay! I really liked the standard color options and layout of this theme, although I do miss the search bar. Thanks!
You can add the search bar back through the widget!
Oooh, i need to figure out which widget. I was looking on the back end of things and didn’t see a search bar widget and then I googled some stuff and there were no answers. I’m not super tech savvy but I’ll look again and see if I can figure it out. Thanks! π
I FOUND IT. Thank you! I don’t know how I overlooked it last time, I think my brain was fried haha. π
HAHA YAY!!! Happy to help! Honestly, I couldn’t live without the search bar π
Yeah I was like ‘um, this might make things difficult’ lol
I love the new look of your blog, Lisa! I hope you enjoy Dragon Republic, I still need to read the first book in the series
Thanks, Kal! I loved Dragon Republic, somehow even more than the first one. π
