This Week in Reading: Too Many Good Books!

Hello all! Some of you may have noticed that I’ve updated the look of the blog over the weekend. I’ve been wanting to change things for a while and I thought it was as good a time as any. Found a new theme I like and got a new header image, also changed the colors so it’s now brighter and more cheery and less dark and heavy. I feel so refreshed! I’m sure eventually I’ll get sick of this as well and change it again but probably won’t have any major changes for a while. At some point sooner rather than later I’d like to update graphics but other than that I’m good. πŸ™‚

So. Books. I read a lot last week, somehow, despite work being pretty busy. I finished off two of the books on my list from last week and made good progress on another. I also finished up two novellas and a middle grade fantasy (the first Cirque du Freak book for my r/fantasy bingo card). Woohoo, progress! Slowly getting down that TBR from 20 Books of Summer challenge while also squeezing in some mood reads and bingo stuff too, that’s what I call a good week.

I also caught up a lot on blogging stuff. In addition to tinkering around with the look of the blog, I also caught up on some other site maintenance and review posts. I added a new page as a review index of sorts where I have all my reviews alphabetical by author. I also have gotten a little under a dozen posts pre-scheduled so I’m feeling pretty good right now. PHEW. Always good to have a little bit of a buffer in case something comes up.

This week will be pretty busy, I’ll be the lone salesperson/customer service rep at work on Monday and Tuesday, then I have a couple of things to do after work next week, and this coming Saturday night my husband and I have a concert to go to in DC. Hoping I can squeeze in some reading though!

My audiobook of Touch has still not checked out from the library yet, don’t know what’s up with that, so I’ll be trying to listen to another shorter book again. I’ve got The Defiant Heir by Melissa Caruso lined up. Looking forward to this one! This is one of my backlist books, so not in my summer TBR, but still one that I need to get to regardless.

I’m still working on finishing up The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang. It’s really great to be back in this world, even if it can be pretty grim. I’ve missed these characters. Should definitely be able to finish this one up this week.

If I get time, I’ll be starting Myths & Mortals by Charlie N. Holmberg. I’m really looking forward to this sequel since I enjoyed the first one. If it’s like her other books, it will be a quick read. Hoping I can start and finish it, but it really all depends on time and whether or not I get distracted by some other non-scheduled book. πŸ™‚

So, those are my plans for this week. Thoughts on these? What are you reading? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I love your new header! It’s fun to refresh your blog😁 I just finished an amazing book, Recursion by Blake Crouch. Now I’m in that position where the book that follows it is going to have a hard time living up to it. I hate that!

I love the new look, it’s so fitting for summer! Also did not realize Holmberg had written books outside of the Paper Magician series, so I’m off to go very excited about that!

Thank you! It does feel summer-like now that I think about it. πŸ™‚
I loved The Paper Magician series! This one has been interesting so far, maybe a little grittier than Paper Magician but still full of interesting magics and characters. πŸ™‚

The blog’s looking great! And I am feeling very much in the same boat with regards to feeling busy and trying to juggle a bunch of books. The kids are out of school now and I’m driving them around to various activities to keep them occupied, whereas my reading time has plummeted because of it. Summer time is also bad for contract/freelance work so I’m trying to make up for it by putting in more hours and grabbing what jobs I can. There are also so many books waiting on my to-read pile that I want to pick up! I just need some time to get into the new rhythm πŸ™‚

Thanks! Yeah, summer transition is tough! I don’t have kids so I don’t feel it as much as others but it’s still a bit of an adjustment. It feels like there’s always less time!

Three cheers for Amalia and Zaira! I love this trilogy so much – I can’t wait to hear how you get on with the second book. I’m still putting off picking up The Dragon Republic (but not for much longer) as a couple of other ARCs sneaked onto my TBR that get released sooner πŸ˜‚Very much looking forward to it though (I am not ready. Is it even possible to be ready?)
