Favorite Five Amazing Magical Artefacts

Today I’m combining Friday Favorite Five with the Wyrd and Wonder Challenge for Wyrd and Wonder month, celebrating all things Fantasy. Today’s prompt is ‘amazing magical artefact’ so I thought, why feature one when I can talk about five? 😀

  • The One Ring – LotR and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

lotr ring

I mean, what’s more amazing than THE ONE RING??? Also, you gotta love magical jewelry! And especially magical jewelry with poetry dedicated to them.

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

  • The Mirror of Erised – Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

mirror of erised

I love this part in Harry Potter, when Harry finds the mirror and looks into it and he gets to see his parents. ❤

“It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts. You, who have never known your family, see them standing around you. Ronald Weasley, who has always been overshadowed by his brothers, sees himself standing alone, the best of all of them. However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen, or been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible.”

  • Excalibur – Arthurian Mythos

excalibur

Excalibur aka The Sword in the Stone is probably one of the most famous swords in history. In some stories of King Arthur, the ones we’re probably most familiar with, the only person able to pull the sword from the stone would be the True King. That’s a lot of fate tied up into one sword!

“Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone and anvil, is rightwise king born of all England. Then the people marvelled, and told it to the Archbishop. I command, said the Archbishop, that ye keep you within your church and pray unto God still, that no man touch the sword till the high mass be all done. So when all masses were done all the lords went to behold the stone and the sword. And when they saw the scripture some assayed, such as would have been king. But none might stir the sword nor move it. He is not here, said the Archbishop, that shall achieve the sword, but doubt not God will make him known.”

Sir Thomas Mallory, King Arthur And His Knights

  • Wardrobe – The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

narnia wardrobe

A magical artefact that can transport you to an entirely different world? Sign me up! I’ve always loved the wonder of the children discovering that this wardrobe is a doorway to another realm. Narnia is probably the first fantasy series I ever read and it will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤

“This must be a simply enormous wardrobe!”

C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

  • Time Turner – Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

time turner

I feel like I’m cheating a bit by having two HP items on here, but man I love that Time Turner. Ignore any plot holes, being able to use a device like a Time Turner is just really cool! I wish I had one. I could get so much more reading done (and maybe catch up on my blogging!).

I mark the hours, every one, Nor have I yet outrun the Sun. My use and value, unto you, Are gauged by what you have to do.

Those are my picks for this week! What are some of your favorite magical artefacts / items? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

My top pick would have to be the wardrobe in the Chronicles of Narnia. I love those stories. I like the idea of the invisibility cloak in Harry Potter, too.

  2. Tammy says:

I think Harry Potter gets a pass with two objects because, well its HP! These are fantastic. I think the Friday Face Off next week also involves magical artifacts and I’m looking forward to it.

  3. Jorie says:

The two you’ve selected from Harry Potter are two of my most beloved favourites as well – I would definitely be the book blogger using the time turner to read & to blog – perhaps even setting up convos on Twitter or re-visiting blogs/convos on Twitter – whilst still being able to do double than normal as you’d have more time ‘offline’ because for every singular ‘day’ you’d almost be living as if you were occupying the space of 48 hours?!

In the Tipsy Fairy Tales there is a special token which is important to the story-line – the author sent me one IRL and I love the fact I actually have a magical artifact from one of my favourite Urban Fantasy series! 🙂 I need to see if I can photograph it and share a bit about it this Wyrd And Wonder!

Outside of that – I’d have to think-on this for a bit as its hard to say “yes, these are mine” when I fear I am simply drawing a blank? OOH wait! The *book!* within The Neverending Story… where each new blank page is ‘written’ as Bastian was reading + experiencing that world alongside everyone else involved?

Oh, the book from Neverending Story is a great one! That’s such a great book, I only read it for the first time a few years ago.

I love that the author sent you something from one of their books, that’s so cool!

And yes, I think we book bloggers especially would all make very good use of time turners, haha. I would get two or three times the amount of things accomplished. Or I’d probably intend to but actually spend all my extra time reading instead lol. 🙂

  4. Realms of My Mind says:

Such a good list! The Wardrobe fills me with joy – the portal to another world full of adventure. One of my favorite recent artefacts is Clef, the key from FOUNDRYSIDE. I just LOVE how it “breaks” the magic of that world.

  5. PerfectlyTolerable says:

Its never cheating to have two Harry Potter items ❤ Haha there are 7 books to choose from 😉 I have a replica of the One Ring and a replica of the Time Turner ❤ I wear the ring every day (its simple and people don't realize how nerdy it actually is :D) I have yet to wear the time turner haha

  6. @lynnsbooks says:

I think you could write an entire list from Harry Potter – if you really think about it. Cloak of Invisibility, Wands, Philosopher’s Stone – such a great series for these sort of lists.
    Lynn 😀

  7. theorangutanlibrarian says:

This is such a brilliant list! makes total sense to me to have two Harry Potter items on here 😉 I’d definitely use the time turner to get more reading done. And the wardrobe has a special place in my heart. The ring is definitely one of the most interesting items in any book as well!!
