Jewels and their lapidaries and have all but passed into myth.
Jorit, broke and branded a thief, just wants to escape the Far Reaches for something better. Ania, a rumpled librarian, is trying to protect her books from the Pressmen, who value knowledge but none of the humanity that generates it.
When they stumble upon a mysterious clock powered by an ancient jewel, they may discover secrets in the past that will change the future forever.
I’m a huge fan of Fran Wilde’s work and enjoyed her first Gemworld novella. Really looking forward to another story set in this world. Also, just look at that gorgeous cover by Tommy Arnold! The Fire Opal Mechanism is set to arrive June 4th from Tor.com.
say what, a librarian protagonist? sign me up!
Right?! Lol
it’s why I’m excited for Sorcery of Thorns as well, magical libraries and apprentice librarian, woohoo!
Ooh, I’ll have to look that one up!
This sounds great! I agree on the cover too. It pulled me in instantly!
It’s a really cool world, can’t wait to read more about it in this new story. The covers are amazing. 🙂
I’m looking forward to this as well, and the cover is stunning😊
I hope we both enjoy!
Gemworld is another series I’ve not started!
I really love the magic system in this one. I am hoping for a little more world building in the next book, it’s tough because they’re novellas so it’s a much tighter story, ya know?
What a beautiful cover. Hope you love it.
Lynn 😀
Thanks, me too 🙂
I haven’t read the first novella but after Jade City I’m all for more books with gem-based magic. 😀
I really need to read Jade City too. Another book I keep meaning to get to!
