Quick-witted, ambitious Ji Lin is stuck as an apprentice dressmaker, moonlighting as a dancehall girl to help pay off her mother’s mahjong debts. But when one of her dance partners accidentally leaves behind a gruesome souvenir, Ji Lin plunges into a dark adventure: a mirror world of secrets and superstitions.
Eleven-year-old Chinese houseboy Ren also has a secret, a promise he must fulfill to his dead master: to find his master’s severed finger and bury it with his body. Ren has 49 days to do so, or his master’s soul will wander the earth forever.
As the days tick relentlessly by, a series of unexplained deaths wrack the district, along with whispers of men who turn into tigers. Ji Lin and Ren’s increasingly dangerous paths crisscross through lush plantations, hospital storage rooms, and ghostly dreamscapes.
I absolutely LOVED Yangsze Choo’s first novel, The Ghost Bride, it’s one of my favorite reads, and so I’m very excited for a new book from her! The Night Tiger comes out February 12th 2019 from Flatiron Books.
YES! This almost made its way to my most anticipated books of 2019 but I cut it at the last minute. I’ve never read anything by the author but the premise sound incredibly interesting. I’m very curious about this book 😊
I’m really looking forward to it! Highly recommend checking out her previous book, The Ghost Bride.
Thanks. Will do! 😊
This sounds intriguing! I loved that line about “a mirror world of secrets and superstitions”. There’s a lot about Chinese folklaw that intrigues me. I think this could be an enchanting read. Also, do I sense a possible love story? I really like a romance subplot!
She had a romantic subplot in her last book so I’m hoping for one in this one, but even if there’s not I’m sure it’ll be great. 🙂
I adored The Ghost Bride!! I had no idea she had a new book coming out! Absolutely adding this to my TBR. Thank You!
My Waiting on Wednesday
I was super excited when I found out she had a new book on the way! She has a blog here on WP that is sporadically updated, I think that’s how I first found out about it.
Oh that’s cool! I’ll have to follow her.
I’m really excited to read this too! I’ve had it on my TBR for a while and I think there was a cover redesign at some point. Great choice!
Oh, didn’t realize that about the cover. I am super excited for this one!
I have this one on my shelf, Lisa! I can’t wait to read it and hope we both enjoy it. Now I want to read her first book!
I loved The Ghost Bride so much! I hope we both enjoy this one too, so excited for it.
Wow, this is completely new to me and I love it! Thanks so much for sharing.
You’re welcome 🙂
I’ve heard fantastic things about The Ghost Bride and this one sounds equally good. Definitely going to have to check out this author!
I loved The Ghost Bride, hope you get the chance to check it out!
I’ve been really looking forward to this as well, I loved The Ghost Bride! Great pick!
Thanks! Yeah, I loved that book too!
I didn’t make the connection to The Ghost Bride until you mentioned it – yes now I remember Yangsze Choo wrote than one too! I’ve always wanted to read her!
I loved The Ghost Bride. There’s a whole section which is a journey to a realm of the Chinese afterlife which is fantastic.
Ahh, I was trying to think if I’d read the author – and I have, The Ghost Bride. I’ll definitely be interested in this one. And just look at that lovely cover.
Lynn 😀
Yes, the cover is lovely!
