Can’t-Wait Wednesday: The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo

tnt-coverQuick-witted, ambitious Ji Lin is stuck as an apprentice dressmaker, moonlighting as a dancehall girl to help pay off her mother’s mahjong debts. But when one of her dance partners accidentally leaves behind a gruesome souvenir, Ji Lin plunges into a dark adventure: a mirror world of secrets and superstitions.

Eleven-year-old Chinese houseboy Ren also has a secret, a promise he must fulfill to his dead master: to find his master’s severed finger and bury it with his body. Ren has 49 days to do so, or his master’s soul will wander the earth forever.

As the days tick relentlessly by, a series of unexplained deaths wrack the district, along with whispers of men who turn into tigers. Ji Lin and Ren’s increasingly dangerous paths crisscross through lush plantations, hospital storage rooms, and ghostly dreamscapes.

I absolutely LOVED Yangsze Choo’s first novel, The Ghost Bride, it’s one of my favorite reads, and so I’m very excited for a new book from her! The Night Tiger comes out February 12th 2019 from Flatiron Books.

YES! This almost made its way to my most anticipated books of 2019 but I cut it at the last minute. I’ve never read anything by the author but the premise sound incredibly interesting. I’m very curious about this book 😊

This sounds intriguing! I loved that line about “a mirror world of secrets and superstitions”. There’s a lot about Chinese folklaw that intrigues me. I think this could be an enchanting read. Also, do I sense a possible love story? I really like a romance subplot!
