#NaNoWriMo Update – 11/9/2018

NaNo-2018-Writer-Twitter-Header

Well, we’re a little over a week into NaNo and here’s my first update already–man how time has flown by! So, my first official update is that I haven’t actually started writing yet. (Gasp!) This past week has been so busy. There wasn’t time at all during the convention because any spare time was spent grabbing a quick meal. They had a NaNo room there being run by our municipal liaison, but I never even got a minute to stop in and say hi. So…yeah. And since the con ended, I’ve been trying to catch up on a couple of reading obligations. I’m really behind on everything and I don’t even know if I’m going to have time to finish my book club book before our meeting on Sunday, hahaha. Whoops!

Anywho. NaNo. So, what I have been able to do this week is brainstorm. I already had an idea in mind for my story, an old idea I had several years ago that I literally got from a dream. But thinking about the original take I did on it, and why it didn’t really work (I over-complicate things), I’m taking a totally different approach on it this time around. I started thinking not about individual plot points, but what I am trying to say with the narrative. Other than ‘x happens and then y and z happen’, what is this actually about? This thinking has given me a bunch of new ideas and I’m pretty happy with where I’m headed, just hoping I can execute them well.

Current plan is to do some more brainstorming tonight in between catching up on the massive piles of laundry I have laying around and then start writing in earnest on Monday, after everything from my tea party book club meeting has died down. Since I only have a goal of 20k, ‘catching up’ shouldn’t be a problem. And I may even change my goal to just finish this one story, which may end up being shorter than that depending on where it takes me. We’ll see what happens!

At least you aren’t too stressed about it. The first year I participated I got stressed when I missed a day, because I knew I had to write double the next day. Have fun with book club!

Hah, yeah. I used to get super stressed about it but now my philosophy is ‘well, it’s more than I’ve written in fiction than the rest of the year so even if I fail it’s still a win’. πŸ™‚
      Thanks!

When I did NaNo, I found the first week is always the hardest because you need to get kick-started, but once you get into the rhythm the rest of November goes easier! Still plenty of time to catch up, good luck! πŸ˜€

I not only haven’t started yet, I’m probably taking my project off the site for this year. I have made it most of the way through one story and sketched out a new one, so at least I’m writing, or at least writing more than I did last month, so I’m trying not to feel too bad about it. (I need to try harder, I think…)
