Last week I did a little more reading than I thought I would (oops!) and I’m now listening to the last Memoirs of Lady Trent book, Within the Sanctuary of Wings, by Marie Brennan. Kyyyyaaaah! I am just loving these books so much that I want to hug them. 😀 If you haven’t read them, they can seem a little dry at first (especially the first one) as they’re the memoirs of a naturalist that studies dragons and she gets quite caught up in all the ins and outs of dragon kind. But they also become very fun adventure books, each one improving over the previous book, and they remind me a bit of Indiana Jones or The Mummy films. I’ll admit I’m going to be a bit sad when I finish off the series this week.
The next audiobook I have on deck is book four in the Dresden Files, Summer Knight by Jim Butcher. These, also, have improved a good deal from the first book. I’m still not sure whether or not I like Harry, but I have a fondness for Urban Fantasy and this is one of the cornerstones of the genre so I thought I should read it.
I’m also currently reading Call of Fire by Beth Cato, this is the second book in her Blood of Earth series. I didn’t get too far into this one last week, but it should be a pretty quick read. I love the characters in this one, the steampunk elements are fun, and the alternate history aspect is pretty fascinating. Plus romance. Swoon.
Lastly, I’ll be moving on to start A Warden’s Purpose by Jeffrey L. Kohanek. This was a review request I received via the TBRindr project organized by Esme at The Weatherwax Report. I don’t know a ton about this book going into it, but it sounds pretty interesting:
Two schools: One of magic and science, the other focused on military excellence.
A dangerous undercurrent flows within both…dark and deadly.
I think it should be a fun read!
So, I have a pretty full reading week. Luckily I get a head start because I still have today off from work, huzzah! What is everyone else reading this week? Leave me a note in the comments! Happy reading!
