This Week in Reading: Finishing up Song, Nevernight, diving into The Poppy War and Full Moon

So I have an odd reading week ahead of me in that most of these books are not things I normally would have picked up just by browsing, but I’m branching out and trying to expand my reading horizons a bit.

I’m almost finished up with The Song of All by Tina LeCount Myers. So far enjoying this epic. The setting is interesting and I like the main character. I have a lot of questions about the magical race of people in this story and I’m hoping I’ll get to learn more about them before the end of the book.

After TSoA, I’m diving into The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. This is an epic fantasy inspired by Chinese history and I am really looking forward to diving into it. Military fantasy with shamanism and a female main character? Yes, please.

In audiobook-land I’m in the middle of Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. Well, this is a fun book. Honestly did not know what to expect with this one. But if you want to read about a precocious bad-ass young lady out for vengeance who is training to be an assassin…this may be your book. Especially if you like humorous asides and you don’t mind ten-minute long sex scenes. 😀

Next up for audio is the second book of the Dresden Files, Full Moon. I’ve read a lot of urban fantasy but for some reason I’ve never gotten around to reading The Dresden Files so I read the first one back in December. It was ok, but mostly ‘meh’. I am continuing on because several friends are fans and I also understand the first two or three books are a bit rough compared to the rest (I’m not one of those people that can just skip them though).

So that’s my reading plans for this week. What are you currently reading or plan to read this week? Leave a comment, I’d love to see what others are reading!
