This Week in Reading: Summer is Here

Hey all! Last week I actually had a GREAT week in reading and I managed to finish up four books. Of course, two of them where already most of the way read, but I’m still counting them (they totally count right?).

I’m going to try and cut down on my random book buying because, frankly, my TBR pile is out of control. I could probably plow through a ton of these books, but then I wouldn’t have time to blog, and where would the fun in that be? That being said, new book! Thanks so much to Lisa @ Tenacious Reader for running such an awesome giveaway and sending this book out to me. Much appreciated, especially as I’ve been wanting to dive into Sarah Beth Durst’s work for a little while now.

I had another fairly busy weekend, with a graduation party on Saturday and then met up with some friends for book shopping and lunch on Sunday, but I still managed to get some reading and blogging in. Next weekend I have DnD on Friday night and then my tea party book club meeting on Sunday so I’ll probably be cleaning and prepping all day Saturday. Summer events are in full swing and it’s not even technically summer yet! Despite being busy, I’m going to do my best to get through some books.

I’m a little over halfway through A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World by C. A. Fletcher. THIS BOOK!!!! I love the prose, I love the way the story is being told, the ‘voice’ of the main character. I’ve already cried twice, even though it’s not super depressing? Looking forward to finishing this one.

I started Daughter of Mystery by Heather Rose Jones late last week and I’m loving it so far. It’s a fantasy of manners type romance, so it’s really my style of book. I’ll have to remember to write down some notes on this one for my book club discussion. 🙂

Next up in audio is The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin. I had this one on hold from my library and it checked out so now I’ll be reading it. I’ve been wanting to finish up this series for a while, not sure why it’s taken me so long. Don’t think I’ll finish this one in a week you’ll probably see it on my list again next week.

Last, but not least, The Book of Flora by Meg Ellison. Definitely looking forward to diving into this one, hopefully I will have time to finish it up and get my review up soon!

That’s my week ahead, and my tentative plans. Hopefully things stay on track. I’m caught up with a lot right now, which helps, but it’s so very easy to fall behind. What are your plans for the week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Wait, you finished four books and you’re half way through another one?? I don’t know how you do that. I read a grand total of 100 pages this weekend (much less than usual). But I’m glad you’re loving A Boy and his Dog, such a wonderful book!

To be fair I was already mostly done two of them. Also, I took off Tuesday to play catch up so that helped, a lot.
Thanks! I’m really loving it. I’m not sure how it will end but there is a beautiful thread of intermingling melancholy and hope throughout that I’m really digging. Hoping to finish it up today or tomorrow.

Ooh, you have The Book of Flora! I received a surprise copy in my mail a few weeks back, and it looked interesting, but then I found out it was a sequel (a book three, IIRC). Are you caught up with the series and if so what do you think about it? Do you think it might be possible to read BoF as a standalone, or will I be very lost?

    • waytoofantasy says:

I believe you can read it as a standalone even though it’s part of a series. I haven’t read the first one either but I looked into it when I received a copy myself.

I loved A Boy and His Dog so can’t wait to pick up your review.
Great reading week – and all those books totally count, I include the books in the week I finished them so some weeks I have more than others because, like you, there are already a couple under way.

Yeah, and sometimes it works out that one week is very book heavy seeming while another isn’t just because of the way I count them like that, haha. Thanks! Hopefully I will have my review up later this month.
