In Cantagna, being a sorcerer is a death sentence.
Romy escapes her hardscrabble upbringing when she becomes courtesan to the Shadow Lord, a revolutionary noble who brings laws and comforts once reserved for the wealthy to all. When her brother, Neri, is caught thieving with the aid of magic, Romy’s aristocratic influence is the only thing that can spare his life—and the price is her banishment.
Now back in Beggar’s Ring, she has just her wits and her own long-hidden sorcery to help her and Neri survive. But when a plot to overthrow the Shadow Lord and incite civil war is uncovered, only Romy knows how to stop it. To do so, she’ll have to rely on newfound allies—a swordmaster, a silversmith, and her own thieving brother. And they’ll need the very thing that could condemn them all: magic.
Super excited for this one especially because Cate Glass is actually Carol Berg and I love her writing so interested to see what this new story is all about. Also, that cover! So gorgeous. An Illusions of Thieves comes out May 21st, 2019 from Tor.
This sounds great, and that cover is seriously gorgeous!
Right?! I’m extra excited since I know this is Carol Berg writing under different name and I love her stuff. ❤
Oh I never heard of this before, but it sounds really good! And the cover is beautiful!

I’m in love with that cover 🙂
What a gorgeous cover. This sounds like a great book, I’m excited for it!
Yeah, I really love that cover too.
Seriously, Cate Glass = Carol Berg? Okay, I guess I am now a bit more confident about trying this one 😀
I guess I should add that I’ve enjoyed Berg’s books in the past. She’s got a way with words!
Yeah, I really love everything I’ve read by her so far. She has fantastic character arcs and loves to put her characters through hell and back. It’ll be interesting to see what she’s done here under this pen name.
Yep! I was interested before I found out but now I’m super excited. 😀
Mmm, not read this author – maybe this could be the perfect starting point. Gorgeous cover.
Lynn 😀
This is her first under the pen name. I’ve read several of Carol Berg’s books and she’s an excellent writer. I love her Rai Kirah series.
