Favorite Five Magicians / Wizards
I can’t believe it’s the end of the week already, this week has just flown by. And here we are with another FFF. This week I’m talking about wizards / mages — one of the favorites of the fantasy world!
- Gandalf – Theย Lord of the Rings
Well, obviously Gandalf is going to be on this list, he’s like the grandpapa of all wizards. I love Gandalf because sometimes he seems really down to earth and then other times he’s all otherworldly and mysterious. Although, sometimes he likes to blather on about the whole history of the world a little bit too much for my tastes, he’s still one of the best in the business. ๐
- Kirin – The Shattered Sigil Trilogy
I love Kirin SOOOOO much. He’s a mage who has been through a lot. He has a dangerous power that makes people fear him and he’s been held in thrall for most of his life, manipulated and abused. The amount of courage it took for him to try and get away from that is staggering. I really enjoy Kirin’s relationships with the other characters in the series, especially Dev. Honestly, I just wanted to give him a hug. Or maybe lots of hugs. (This is a fantastic series and if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend checking it out.)
- Polgara – The Belgariad
Well, as much as anyone might love Belgarath (let’s face it, he’s a Gandalf knockoff), I was always all about Aunt Pol aka Polgara the Sorceress. She’s just an awesome lady and I remember back when I read these books a looooong time ago, really loving her character. Who says wizards have to be dudes?
- Howl – Howl’s Moving Castle
I mean, this one is pretty much a no-brainer for me. Howl’s Moving Castle is one of my favorite books and it’s not only Sophie who makes it such a fun read, but also Howl. I’ll admit, Howl can get a bit exasperating at times with his single mindedness but, ultimately, he’s one awesome wizard.
- Harry Dresden – The Dresden Files
Last but not least, Harry. How could I not include him after spending all of last year marathoning the entire series? Harry isn’t always likable, especially in the beginning, but damn if he doesn’t grow on you. And he’s so resourceful and cares more about people then he does about following the rules. He’s one you’d want on your side for sure.
Well, those are my picks for this week! Who are some of your favorite magicians / wizards in fantasy? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!
Gandalf is by far my favorite wizard. I can’t wait to read Howl’s Moving Castle as we loved the movie! Excellent FFF. Have a great weekend. ๐
Thanks! The book to Howl’s is so good. There are a lot of differences with details but the characters are there for the most part. I hope you love it. Have a great weekend, too!
This is fantastic! And you included a David Eddings!!! I’m so happy about that!
I’m going to have to do my own list. Is that okay, if I link back to you?
I really loved Eddings back in the day. ๐
Yes, of course!
What, noone from Harry Potter made your list?!?!?! Thats blasphemy! Hahah tho I do like Gandolf ๐
Omg how did I forget about Harry Potter ?!?!? Lol
Dresden forever!
Truly though, one of my favorite characters of all time. If I thought I could realistically do it, I’d start a reread now that it looks like Peace Talks might finally see the light of day…….
Oh, is there news on Peace Talks?
Yup, his website finally updated to say that he’s like 46 chapters in. There were apparently some major life upheavals that put writing on pause, but he’s back into it, so I’m crossing my fingers we may finally see something in the next year!
Oh nice!!
This topic has a lot of great options! Gandalf is definitely an automatic favorite. I haven’t read any of the others (other than Howl’s Moving Castle, but it was so long ago I hardly remember–time for a re-read!), but I do like the sound of all of them so I may have more reading to do.
I reread Howl’s a couple of years ago, so fun that book. ๐
Well, I’ve not read all of these but have read three off your list and heartily agree. Gandalf, Dresden and Howl. Love em.
Lynn ๐
Glad you like them too! I do recommend The Whitefire Crossing, I think you would like it.
Obviously Gandalf! And I love Howl!!
I love Howl so much. Have you read the other books in universe? I especially loved his antics in House of Many Ways.
