This Week in Reading: A Rough Start But a Strong Finish!

Had a bit of a rough go with reading for much of the week. I did manage to do okay with audio and finished up Peace Talks and started my next read there. But for print I was incredibly distracted and didn’t make much progress at all until the weekend. Over the weekend I finished a book on Saturday and a book on Sunday so, huzzah!

I was having issues during the week because we’ve just had a lot going on with the renovation stuff and the contractor staying late, having to run over to my in-laws in the evenings to bathe, etc. And of course things are running behind schedule and our bathroom still isn’t finished–although it’s finally getting there! The end is in sight! Hopefully we’ll see them start on the kitchen sometime this week.

But also because I just wasn’t loving what I was reading. So….I have my first ever official DNF. I let this book go and it feels like the right decision. I will have a DNF review coming up for it, although not until November because this month’s reviews are booked and I have plans for October….

Speaking of, I’ve been trying to plan my reading (hahahaha, whyyyyyy) so that I can get a lot of stuff scheduled for October (yay Halloween month!) and November. I’ve been toying with the idea of doing NaNoWriMo again and if I get enough stuff scheduled here ahead of time I might try for it. We’ll see.

Anywho. On to my reading plans for this week~!

In audio I’m working on The Better Part of Valor by Tanya Huff. This is the second book in her Confederation series, which is a military sci-fi about space marines. It’s a fun series so far and I’m enjoying this one, there’s always some interesting characters popping up.

In print, I’ll be reading an ARC of a new YA fantasy, Mary Quirk and the Secret of Umbrum Hall by Anna St. Vincent. This is actually a pen name of one of my favorite authors so I can’t wait to check this one out. I have a feeling I’ll enjoy it a lot. ๐Ÿ™‚

If I finish up Mary Quirk, then I’m not sure what I’ll be reading next. I have two more ARCs that I need to read for review so I might check out one of those or I might just do some mood reading. Same with audio–I have no immediate plans! We’ll see what happens. What are you reading this week? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

Yeah, I’m realizing that’s sort of the norm with these things… oh well. Bathroom should be done before the end of the week though, getting tiled today so I’m excited for that! There’s an end in sight! Then comes the kitchen…
Here’s hoping because I feel like I’m forever behind in one way or another. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think I’m also going to have to start DNFing…I hate to do it, but…these are strange times! I’m so busy these days, and the last thing I need is a bad book dragging me down further. I’m happy to hear you finished Peace Talks though, now that’s a book to get the blood pumping!

I really hate to do it too! But honestly I felt so much better after DNFing it.
I loved Peace Talks. I’m not without my criticisms of it, BUT, overall it was really fun and great to spend time with Harry again. ๐Ÿ˜€

Ooh, delays – I really don’t like that. And a DNF – but that’s good in a way, I find trying to persevere with a book that I’m not enjoying just gets me down and slows everything down completely but it’s difficult to do because I just want to keep giving the book another chance – so, it’s progress I think to be able to put a book down and say it isn’t for you.

Yeah, I don’t feel too bad about the DNF–it helped me move on with my reading. It actually feels like a huge relief!

I think our contractor got behind and has been trying to play catch up but also I think he’s just super slow? It seems to be taking him forever to do things that should take less time? But I’m not an expert by any means so…idk. He was at our house until almost 9pm yesterday working! I wanted to go to bed at 830 and read but he was still there lolololol. I am going to be SO glad when this is over. So glad.

So I am beginning to realize haha. It’s just so….frustrating. I’m trying to think of the end game!
Yeah, I’m actually more than okay with the DNF! It’s like a weight off of my shoulders.
