20 Books of Summer Reading Challenge #20booksofsummer

20booksofsummer

Ah, here we go with another lovely reading challenge! Just when I thought I didn’t have enough reading challenges, I’m adding one more to my plate because, why not? Also, this one seems super fun!

I saw this challenge at onemore.org and thought it looked super fun so I thought I’d join in. This challenge is created and hosted by Cathy from 746 Books. The rules are simple – pick 20 books (or 10 or 15) to read over the Summer (June 3rd-September 3rd) in order to reduce our TBR piles. Or in some of our cases (definitely in my case) our TBR mountains. 😀

I’m going to have a mix of physical books and ebooks and maybe even an audiobook thrown in for good measure. All of my TBR’s are fairly out of control, but mostly my physical, so I think my concentration will be on that for the most part. Also, because I tend to average around 12-14 books per month, I’m going to up my goal and make it 25 Books of Summer. Let’s get ambitious and clear some books off my plate!

Physical Books in the TBR Mountain

This is my biggest and most ambitious pile. I don’t tend to go through as many physical copies now days and yet I keep on acquiring them anyway. Eep! Most of these are books that have come out this year and I haven’t had time to read them yet for one reason or another. Looking forward to, hopefully, reducing this pile! (Or at least replacing them with other titles, heh.) These range from Adult SFF to YA to a couple of Middle Grade books. Two of these were books sent for review, the rest are all on me. So, in no particular order:

P5RT6bv

  1. Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto
  2. Dreams of the Dark Sky by Tina LeCount Myers
  3. Riverland by Fran Wilde
  4. Asha and the Spirit Bird by Jasbinder Bilan
  5. The Beast’s Heart by Leife Shallcross
  6. An Illusion of Thieves by Cate Glass
  7. Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse
  8. Myths & Mortals by Charlie N. Holmberg
  9. The Book of Flora by Meg Elison

eARC’s in the TBR Mountain

I have three eARC’s I need to read over the Summer, some sooner rather than later.

  1. The Dragon Republic by R. F. Kuang
  2. The Girl With No Face by M. H. Boroson
  3. A Song For a New Day by Sarah Pinsker

I’m extremely excited to get to all of these! Two are sequels to books I’ve loved and A Song For a New Day is Sarah Pinsker’s debut novel.

Other eBooks in the TBR Mountain

Not only do I hoard physical books, but ebooks are becoming an increasing problem! Whoops! All but two of these are review copies that I am really behind on. Double whoops! Too many books, so little time! Plus I have a tendency to over-commit. Heh.

  1. The Blood Prince by Josie Jaffrey
  2. Lace and Lies by Nancy Warren
  3. The Hidden Face by S. C. Flynn
  4. Clock’s Watch II: Daughters of the Black Moon by Michael Reyes
  5. The Spec Set by Taya Okerlund
  6. Under Ordshaw by Phil Williams
  7. Wagers of Fate by Noureddine Hifad
  8. Sunkissed Feathers & Severed Ties by Kellie Doherty

Audiobooks in the TBR Mountain

Ah yes, even my audiobooks are starting to pile up!

  1. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
  2. Last Bastion by Rachel Aaron and Travis Bach
  3. Beautiful by Juliet Marillier
  4. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
  5. Touch by Claire North

So, that is my Summer TBR pile, such as it is. I’ve left some room for additions because I know I’ll end up with a lot more audio than what I’ve listed here (even though some of these are quite long). I may even end up shifting some of the physical books into audio just because I tend to have more time for audio these days. I also have to read some books for my r/fantasy Book Bingo challenge, where I’ve decided to do an all vampire themed card so I may have to go looking for books there. I left myself some space for books outside of SFF (I need my romances!) but hopefully I’ll stay mostly on track. All that being said, I think I’m being ambitious. I am a creature at the mercy of my moods, after all. We’ll see how it goes!

I love this challenge! I’m not joining, but I will be following your progress, and it sounds like you’ll have plenty of amazing books to read. The Girl with No Face is one I’m excited for too😁

Thanks Tammy! Hopefully I can manage to stay on track. (I need discipline! LOL). I can’t wait to get to that one! So hard because I have so many other things to read too. I think my biggest problem is going to be figuring out what order to read everything in haha.

Ooh, this seems like a fun challenge. Thanks to audiobooks, I can probably hit this number. I really should push myself to read stuff from earlier in the year though, because the releases from winter and spring tend to just gather dust the longer I put them off, so maybe I should adapt this challenge for myself to read 20 books from Jan-April 😀

What’s the next step after a TBR mountain? I’m pretty sure that’s the point I’ve reached by now. xD That’s why I decided to join haha! Glad to see you joining, too. 🙂

Hehe I love the cute little kitty casually peeking around your stack of books. Probably wondering if you’ve lost your mind. I’ve been wanting to read Crown of Feathers, too! It sounds really good. I just bought The Priory of the Orange Tree, too, so I’ll have to read that soon. And I’ve heard great things about pretty much all of Laini Taylor’s books!

Hope you enjoy your picks (and hopefully, your TBR mountain feels just a little more scalable by the time this challenge is over).

Yeah, to be honest my TBR mountain could be Mt. Everest at this point 🤣
My cat loves books! If one is around he needs to lay on it. If they are stacked up he comes over to smell them. As soon as I stacked them up he jumped up there, he’s silly.
Thanks! If I can manage to keep my book buying under control (hah!) I should he able to make a dent. Good luck to you as well!

I should perhaps join in – might make me take a look back at the books I’ve missed! Need more time.
Good luck with all your reads – Girl with no Face is high on my list.
    Lynn 😀

Thanks, Lynn! If you think you could do 20 books in 3 months, I’d say go for it! I think it’s gonna be a good thing for me, help me stay on track. 🙂 Girl with No Face is high on my list too, so excited for that one! Thanks!

Looks like you’re going to have a busy, but super fun, summer! I can’t wait to see what you think of Strange the Dreamer!

  6. Lindsey says:

Good luck! You’ve got a great list here. The only trouble is while you tackle your TBR pile, I add to mine reading through your posts 😂😂

  7. Zezee says:

I’m tempted to join in this challenge, but I know I’ll probably make the TBR and not read anything from it like I usually do.
Good luck on your list though.
And I love the new look of your blog. I’m probably late to the change though because it’s been a week since I’ve been able to visit blogs.

    • waytoofantasy says:

I’m using the challenge more as motivation than anything because these are all books I already have and need to get to. I’m generally terrible about sticking to long term TBRs though so we’ll see how it goes lol. 🙂
Thanks! I just updated it yesterday, so right on time! I’ve been wanting to change it for a while, make it feel cleaner and more cheery.
