This Week in Reading: More Progress Made and an Ambitious Week Ahead!

Well, I had a GREAT week in reading last week, despite having an after work event one evening and work being really crazy. I managed to finish three books, all of them science fiction or fantasy! Books I conquered last week: Shards of Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold, The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards, andΒ In Dreaming Bound by J. Kathleen Cheney. I am so excited that I got my reading mojo back, woot! AND I made a tiny bit of progress with review requests (I’ll take it!). Every time I make a bit of progress it makes me feel good and like a bit of weight has been lifted, phew!

The other big news, in case you missed it yesterday, is that I joined up in the Wyrd & Wonder month long blogging event celebrating the Fantasy genre. Now, since I pretty much talk Fantasy all the time around here, I’ll probably do a couple of special posts just for the event. Not sure what those are yet, but there’s a lot of month left to plan an conquer. πŸ˜€

This week ahead is going to be an interesting mix of books!

First up in audio, I’m most of the way through Fledgling by Octavia Butler. This is a book I’m reading specifically for my r/fantasy bingo card (I’m trying to do an all-vampire themed card). I have a lot of thoughts about this book so far, mostly that I’m not sure what to think until I see how the rest of this book plays out, lol! The only other book I’ve read by Butler is Kindred and I really loved that one, even though it was a tough read at times.

After that I’m going to listen to Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. This is the pick for my fancy tea book club and our next meeting should be coming up within the next month,. Even though this is a reread, I really want to get it in before the series comes out whether or not the tea party ends up being this month or next. This is one of my top five favorite books and I can’t wait to revisit it. I’ve never listened to it before so it should be pretty fun.

In print I still have Straight Outta Fangton by C.T. Phipps. I promise to actually read this one this week, it’s becoming embarrassing at this point how I keep putting it off for other books… O.o I’m sure, based on the other book I’ve read by the author, that this will be a rather quick read.

Next up is Angels’ Blood by Nalini Singh. This is the first book for our HEA Fantasy Romance book club. I have no expectations going into this one so I’m hoping it’s something that is a pleasant surprise. It also looks to be a quick read (I tend to plow through romance-centric books really fast).

If I have time to start a third print book (yeah, I’m being REALLY ambitious), it’ll be Mist, Metal, and Ash by Gwendolyn Clare. I really enjoyed the first book in this series. The magic and tech in this world is so very interesting. This should, also, be a quick read (I’m hoping!)

Again, a very ambitious week considering I’ll probably have to do a dinner or something on Sunday for Mom’s day and I have a baseball game Tuesday night with one of my best friends. We’ll see how it goes though! What are you reading this week? Thoughts on my picks? Leave a note in the comments, I’d love to chat!

I’m glad you got your reading mojo back! I’ve had fledgling on my shelf for ages but never got around to it. I look forward to reading your opinion on it when you finish 😁 also can’t wait for Good Omen tv series to come out. It looks so good! πŸ€— happy reading!

Fledgling has been….interesting lol. I’m SO EXCITED for Good Omens on TV! Feels like I’ve been waiting forever for an adaptation. πŸ˜€
      Have a great week, Ivy!

I haven’t read The Fledgling, but I did love Blood Child. One of these days I’ll catch up😁 I’ve got a very busy reading week, not sure how I’m going to pull it off since I’m a slow reader. I just started Pariah which is a brick of a book, and I’m on a blog tour next week for another book so I have to finish Pariah so I can start that in time for the tour!! Wish me luck😁

I’m about to start reading Truthwitch, and I just finished the audiobook for Wildard, so I have to pick up a new one soon πŸ™‚

I’ve also been meaning to reread Good Omens in anticipation of the new series! If you’ve started on it already, how’s the narration? I’ve heard good things about audiobooks by Neil Gaiman but I haven’t ever listened to one myself.

I haven’t started yet, hope to start tomorrow as I should be finished up my current audiobook by then, I’ll let you know. I have listened to a few others and I will say that the narration has always been good with Gaiman books in my experience πŸ™‚

I have obviously been loving Nalini Singh’s writing (seeing how I heave read 20 or so of her books in the last 6 months). I got on a lot better with her other series but still really enjoy how she tells her stories. I am looking foward to your thoughts!

I think I actually read Angel’s Blood way back when as a filler between some longer darker reads (and my library actually had it … they have a really sucky fantasy selection). I honestly can’t remember much beyond that πŸ™‚ (which I would take to mean it didnt suck)
