This Week in Reading: More Progress Made!

I had an okay week in reading this week and finished two books, The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons and The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson. Looking forward to sharing my thoughts on both of these soon! The thing I’m most excited about is that I’m FINALLY caught up on my netgalley queue! It’s all clear, woohoo! Now I just need to catch up on a few review requests and I’ll be good to go. PHEW. I even caught up some on writing reviews this weekend. I still have over five posts in my drafts folder but at least it’s under ten now so that feels manageable.

In addition to all the reading and blogging progress I’ve also been making progress on a project at home which feels really good. For over a year we’ve been talking about turning one side of our basement into a table top gaming area. This room used to be my husband’s man cave which he never really used. It was full of storage totes and bags of seasonal decorations and other miscellaneous stuff and really needed to be sorted out and cleaned. And, because of where we’re putting away the totes, that really couldn’t happen until I sorted out and cleaned the other side of the basement which is our laundry/utility room, which I finally got around to the previous weekend (I had been putting it off for various reasons mostly concerning my depression and anxiety). I still have some things to do and may have to get some more book cases, but overall it’s starting to come together. Yay, progress! Progress all around!

This week I’ll be reading (once again) Wagers of Fate: The 108 Stars by Noureddine Hifad. I put this one on hold to read The Bird King since that one is coming out tomorrow and it was an eARC. Unfortunately when it comes to reading sometimes I have to decide based on priority. But rest assured I am still reading this one and looking forward to it!

Once I finish up Wagers of Fate, I think I’ll be start A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. This is the last of my January new releases that’s on my anticipated books list (another thing I can check off). So excited to get to this one. 😀

In audio, I started The Spirit Eater by Rachel Aaron. This is the third book in The Legend of Eli Monpress series. Not very far in so can’t say what I think yet, but it should be a fun one. I’ll probably finish this one up mid-week if I get enough listening time in at work, it’s not a very long book.

I don’t know what my next audio book will be. I do have several books in my audio back list but they’re all longer books (over 15 hours) and I’m not sure I’m in the mood for another long book at the moment after finishing up The Ruin of Kings. So I may shop around the library and see what’s available or just buy some extra credits from audible because why not. I’ll have to see where my mood takes me.

Those are my plans! Right now I feel pretty good about sticking to them, but you know how it goes. What is everyone else reading this week? Leave me a note in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!

  1. I can’t wait to hear what you thought about Ruin of Kings! I just started Wild Country by Ann Bishop and I’m already sucked into the story😁

  2. Have fun reading! I’m listening to queen of air and darkness 🙂 and I’m about to start reading Royal Assassin!

  3. You’re really catching up. It’s a good feeling – I’m trying to keep on top of the books that I’m reading by writing reviews and posting them straight away – I still have 3, I think, from last year, but I’m going to get back to them – I figured why let all the books get behind – I know those three are late so it’s just a bit of management – I can review the books I’m reading, therefore keeping me on track – and then I can backtrack to the final 3 reviews i need to still post from last year.
